Big Eddy Whitewater Adventure
FLPW’s Big Eddy Whitewater Adventure: Paddle Like You Mean It
Welcome to the Big Eddy Thriller – where calm meets chaos, and your dignity meets a class 3 rapid. Join your fellow FLPW reunion goers as we boldly float where many soggy shoes have gone before: three miles of splashy goodness down Central Oregon’s Upper Deschutes River. It’s like a water park—except with more lava, more paddles, and fewer churros.
What Is This Madness?
A three-mile guided whitewater rafting trip, jam-packed into three hours of mild drifts, thrilling dips, and that one moment where you’ll wish you'd taken swimming more seriously in college.
-
Class 1-3 rapids: Easy enough for beginners, but just spicy enough to test your core strength (and maybe your bladder).
-
Voted #1 Outdoor Activity in Bend (Tripadvisor doesn’t lie, people).
-
Bonus features: Lava flows, high desert sagebrush, osprey giving you side-eye, and a chance to finally wear that athletic gear you bought in 2019.
When's the Soaking Happening?
Thursday, July 17
Meet at 11:30 AM sharp-ish for your 12:00 PM departure. Don’t make us come looking for you. You’ll check in, sign the waiver that says, “Yes, I acknowledge that I might scream involuntarily,” and hop on the shuttle to the Aspen launch site.
What to Expect
-
Start off smooth. Your guide will ease you into things with some safety tips, paddling instructions, and maybe a reminder not to yell “ABANDON SHIP!” every time you hit a ripple.
-
Scenic float. Drift peacefully past lava fields, towering Ponderosa pines, and birds that are 100% judging your paddling form.
-
Big Eddy himself. Before you hit the big rapids, you'll take a short walk to scout them out. Don’t worry—no one's grading your fear-face.
-
Paddle like your GoPro is watching. After scouting, you’ll jump back in the raft, grip your paddle, and give it your all as you conquer four class 3 rapids that will either make you scream with joy or reevaluate your life choices.
-
Victory float. After surviving the splashy drama, glide through a few more baby rapids, and end your journey at Lava Island—just before the part of the river where boats go to die.
What to Wear (Besides Your Brave Face)
-
On warm days: Bathing suits, shorts, T-shirts.
-
On cool days: Layer up like a mountain hipster. Avoid cotton unless you like being cold and damp all day.
-
Footwear: No flip flops. Seriously. If your shoes can come off easily, they will—with dramatic flair.
-
We supply splash gear to make you feel like a waterproof superhero.
What to Bring (Besides a Sense of Humor)
-
Water (hydration is key to heroic paddling)
-
Snacks (for the shuttle, not mid-rapid snacking unless you're VERY advanced)
-
Towel & dry clothes (so you don’t drip all over the car upholstery)
-
GoPro or waterproof camera (bragging rights)
-
The willingness to yell “WE GOT THIS!” even when you're not sure you do.
Important Final Note
You must book your spot directly with Sun Country Tours 541.382.1709
Tell them you’re with the FLPW Reunion so they know you're awesome (and so you get grouped with the right crew).
See you on the water, paddles high, spirits higher, and egos just slightly damp.
