Monitor the parking lot entry points and points at which the course crosses traffic to stop cars if there are participants crossing. Cheer on participants as they pass!

Course Marshall High Priority

Details

As a Course Marshall, you’ll play a key role in keeping the race safe, smooth, and full of energy! You'll be stationed at designated points along the course to guide participants, direct traffic as needed, and cheer on participants as they pass. Your presence and enthusiasm make a big difference—so bring signs, noisemakers, and plenty of spirit to help create an exciting and supportive atmosphere! You’ll be notified by the course lead bike volunteer once the final participant has passed your station.

Help us capture the energy of race day! Snap photos of runners, volunteers, and the course action during your shift. Share your pictures on social media by tagging Northern Illinois Food Bank, or email them to tking@northernilfoodbank.org after the race.

Halfway Water Station High Priority

Details

As a Water Station Volunteer, you’ll be stationed at the halfway point of the 5K/10K course to help keep our runners hydrated and motivated! Volunteers will be split into two groups: one will fill reusable water cups provided by ALDI using gallon jugs, while the other will prep paper cups—filling them halfway and handing them out to participants as they pass.

Please help keep the course clean by ensuring all waste is placed in the designated trash bins. You’ll be notified by the course lead bike volunteer once the final participant has passed your station.

Bring your energy and enthusiasm—signs, noisemakers, and other fun items are encouraged to cheer on runners and create an unforgettable experience!

Don’t forget to capture the moment! Take photos of fellow volunteers, participants, and the excitement at the water station. Share them on social media by tagging Northern Illinois Food Bank, or email them to tking@northernilfoodbank.org after the race.

Volunteer Photographer Medium Priority

Details

As a Volunteer Photographer, you’ll help capture the energy, excitement, and spirit of the Fight Hunger event. You'll be responsible for documenting the event by taking photos of participants in action, enthusiastic volunteers, and memorable moments along the course, start/finish line, post-race festival and awards.

Focus on a mix of candid and posed shots—runners at the start/finish line, water stations, cheering sections, and any fun race-day details.

After the event, please upload all photos to the Fight Hunger 2025 Google Drive folder so we can share the memories and celebrate our amazing participants and volunteers.

Race Day Check-In and Packet Pick-Up High Priority

As a Packet Pick-Up Volunteer, your role includes assisting with check-in and distributing race packets to ensure a smooth and welcoming start to the event.

We’ll be using the RaceDay Check-In App. Please download the free app on your mobile device before your shift. It’s simple to use, and we’ll provide a quick training session before participants begin arriving, so you’ll feel fully prepared.

Information Tent High Priority

Details

As an Information Tent Volunteer, you’ll be the go-to source for race participants and guests. You’ll represent the Food Bank by providing helpful information—answering questions about the race (such as directions or course details), sharing insight about the Food Bank’s mission, and helping guide attendees as needed.

You may also assist with distributing fundraising incentives or store purchases to participants and collecting donations made to support the Food Bank.

Your friendly presence and knowledge will help create a warm, organized, and engaging experience for everyone attending!

Distribute Finisher Medals High Priority

Details

As a Finisher Medal Volunteer, you’ll be celebrating each participant’s accomplishment by handing out medals as they cross the finish line at both the Fun Run and 5K/10K Finish Lines. 5K/10K finishers will receive a different medal from the Fun Run finishers. Be sure to hand out the correct medal to each participant based on the race they completed.

Important: Only 5K/10K finishers who are wearing a race bib are eligible to receive a medal. Fun Run finishers will not have a bib.

Your role is all about positivity—congratulating the runners on their achievement and helping them feel celebrated as they cross the finish line. You’ll also assist with keeping the finish area organized and cheer on participants as they complete their race.

Food Truck and Vendor Coordinator High Priority

Details

As a Food Truck & Vendor Coordinator, you’ll welcome food trucks and festival vendors upon arrival, directing them to their designated set-up locations. You'll provide food trucks with voucher envelopes where they can keep collected vouchers during the event. After the festival, you'll collect, re-count the vouchers and deliver the envelopes to the Information Tent so the truck can be reimbursed by a Food Bank staff member.

Bike Lead High Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

As a Course Lead Volunteer, you’ll ride ahead of the participants on the 5K/10K route, guiding them through the course. Once the last participant has passed, you'll cycle back along the route to inform volunteers that the race is complete.

If you’re not familiar with the course, please plan to arrive early to review the route and ensure you’re fully prepared.

Festival Attendant Medium Priority

As a Festival Attendant, you'll help keep the festival area clean. Your responsibilities will include tidying up the area as needed, emptying and replacing garbage bins, and ensuring the vendors and volunteer stations have what they need throughout the day.

As a Course Safety Volunteer, you’ll be stationed at designated points along the 5K/10K route to help ensure the safety and well-being of all participants with a radio to monitor activity on the course and report any emergencies, injuries, or concerns directly to EMS and the Race Director.

Event Tear-Down and Clean-Up High Priority

As an Event Tear-Down Volunteer, you’ll assist the team in wrapping up the event smoothly and efficiently. Your responsibilities will include helping with clean-up, collecting signage and event materials, breaking down equipment or tables as needed, and loading supplies into the Northern Illinois Food Bank van.

Post-Race Food/Water Table

As a Post-Race Food & Water Table Volunteer, you’ll help refuel and refresh participants after they cross the finish line. Your responsibilities will include handing out post-race food items, prepping and organizing food on the tables, and refilling reusable water cups (provided by ALDI) using gallon jugs. You may also help prep additional paper water cups for quick access.
