Bridging Histories, Honoring Legacy

The Igbo Landing Commemoration Weekend is dedicated to preserving the historical narratives of the Igbo people and the Gullah Geechee community, while celebrating the depth and diversity of the African diaspora.

Through this annual gathering on St. Simons Island, GA, we create space for educators, students, cultural leaders, and community members to engage in meaningful dialogue, immersive experiences, and collective remembrance.

This is more than an event—it is a return to memory, purpose, and legacy.

Thursday, May 21 – Arrival & Welcome
Check-in, grounding, and opening gathering to set intention for the weekend.

 
Friday, May 22 – Education Day & Heritage Tour
Engage in educational sessions and guided tours of historic sites across St. Simons Island, including Igbo Landing and surrounding areas.

 
Saturday, May 23 – Gullah Geechee Cultural Experience
Attend the Gullah Geechee Festival in Beaufort, South Carolina.

• Worship Service at First African Baptist Church
• Guided Land Tour of historic sites
• Igbo Landing Commemoration Ceremony

Planning Your Experience
Transportation: Attendees are responsible for arranging their own transportation to all off-site activities, including the Gullah Geechee Festival, tours, and church service.

Meals: Meals at Epworth by the Sea are optional and available for purchase individually for those not staying on-site.
