Andrew McMorris Foundation 6th Annual Gala
September 30, 2024 at 6:30 PM
Cradle of Aviation Museum, Garden City, New York
Do you miss the glamour of the old days of flying? When TWA and Pan Am flew across the Atlantic, full meals were complimentary, and people got dressed up for the occasion.
Then wish no more! Join us on Monday September 30th, for the 6th Annual Andrew McMorris Foundation Gala when we will step back in time to the Golden Age of Flight Travel at the Cradle of Aviation with the music of an era.
Air travel in the 1950s was something magical and marvelous. Air travel exploded into its Golden Age, and airplane trips weren't just a means of getting to your vacation - they were a vacation in themselves. Passengers dressed in their finest to fly. They lined up for group photos before boarding. Riding an airplane made them feel like a movie star. You were handed a postcard as you boarded. Flying was so utterly rare that passengers felt compelled to document every moment on postcards with pictures of the plane or in-flight meal, to show their less lucky loved ones what the newfangled experience was like. Many old-timers would likely cite this time as the True Golden Age of air travel. These new Jet Airplanes were bigger, faster, quieter, smoother, roomier and far more reliable. They were many glamorous pictures of serving carts, freshly carved meats, champagne - air travel was an event. Airlines were competing with the booming cruise industry and became the epitome of glamour and luxury. Flying was a huge event and a prestigious and glamorous experience to have.
“Nostalgia always tints our memories with a golden hue, and the golden age of flying was glamorous."
