Event Description
Join us for the second DBG Lecture of 2026 at the Delaware Botanic Gardens. Dr. Ian Stewart, Ornithologist with the Delaware Nature Society will share his knowledge and passion for birds with us.
Lecture title: How birds can help you get more out of life
Lecture description: Birds are the perfect gateway to the natural world and Delaware is fortunate to have a rich variety. Here I will discuss some of our state’s avian highlights and some of the best places to watch birds in lower Delaware. I will also suggest several ways to attract more birds to your yard throughout the year, with a particular focus on native plants, and why creating bird-friendly spaces can help enrich your life.
As a special bonus, 20 people who purchase tickets before May 27th will be randomly selected for an exclusive "Guided Bird Walk" with Ian prior to the Lecture. Winners will be contacted via email on May 29th. The walk will take place from 5 PM - approximately 5:45 PM.
About the speaker: Ian grew up in north-east England and studied the breeding biology of birds for his PhD at the University of Leicester, UK. He now works for the Delaware Nature Society where he studies how their land management practices affect birds with a particular focus on Wood Thrushes. He also conducts nature outreach programs including bird walks and public bird banding sessions. Ian is a naturalized US citizen and lives with his wife and two sons in Kennett Square PA.
Doors open at 5:30 PM, and the lecture starts at 6:00 PM, with Q+A to follow. Light refreshments will be provided.
