Yes! You don't need any experience to enjoy square dancing. The caller (the person on the microphone) will teach each dance to the group before starting. Once the dance begins, the caller will call out the moves as you do them!
It's totally normal to get better at a dance as it goes on, so just smile and have fun!
We will have water available and some snacks in the dance hall.
The Rush Coffee Truck will be on-site at the Grange from 6:30PM until 9:30pm to sell coffee, tea, frappes, italian sodas and more for your enjoyment!
If you're looking for a full meal OR maybe an adult beverage or two, check out the Greenbriar Inn nearby!

A square dance is an American traditional folk dance! It consists of 8 people divided into 4 couples. Each couple stands on one side of the square and the group will dance the figure and breaks as the caller calls them out. Here are some terms and what they mean!
The square - the group of 4 couples.
Couple number 1 - The couple in the square starting with their backs to the caller .
Couple number 2 - The couple positioned to the right of couple number one on the side of the square.
Couple number 3 - The couple facing the caller
Couple number 4 - The couple to the right of couple number 3 on the side of the square.
Your Partner - The other person in your couple (either to your right or left)
Your corner - The person closest to you not in your couple
Home: The original starting position in the square
Circle Left/Circle Right: Join hands and move in a circle
Right Left Grand: Face partner, take right hands, walk alternating hands with others until meeting partner again
Swing: A 360-degree spin with a partner
Do-Si-Do: a non-contact movement where two facing dancers walk a full circle around each other.
There is a main hall, stage, two restrooms, and coat room. The main hall is 50′ X 24′ and the raised stage is 16′ X 29′. The stage features an optional vintage, hand-painted backdrop and is perfect for hosting a ceremony, serving food, presenting musicians or speakers, and additional seating for guests.
The ground floor has a kitchen and open space measuring 66′ X 24′. It has durable linoleum floors, a four burner range, two ovens, a microwave, plus a full-size refrigerator and full size freezer. In addition are three long prep tables. Although the kitchen is very functional and renters are encouraged to use it, it should be noted that it is not strictly a ‘commercial kitchen.’
Nope! Find a square who needs another person and hop in! Square dancers are friendly and inclusive!
Ideally, child tickets are for kiddos 12 and under ... but we're not going to enforce this. If an adult is buying a child ticket and asking to gain entry, we'll kindly ask that they purchase an adult ticket at the door. If a family is coming in to dance with young kids and teenage kids, we're totally fine with all the kiddos buying child tickets if needed.
The band and caller and venue rental fees are entirely paid with the ticket sales.
Yes. We will take cash at the door. The ticket price will be $15 on the day of the dance.
We are using TicketSignup for our ticketing for this dance. TicketSignup charges a processing fee for online transactions. Using TicketSignup allows us to have a website, email tools, pre-sale ticketing counts and SEO to help market our dance and help it to grow.
The fees are optional for you as dancers. You can pass them on to us and we'll pay them if you'd like.
The music will be played by David Scrivner and The New Pleasant Valley String Band.
David Scrivner is a celebrated fiddler from Missouri. He has won fiddle contests all over the Ozarks including the Arkansas State Fiddle Championship. He is classified as a Master Fiddler by the Missouri Folks Arts Commission and learned to fiddle directly from Missouri fiddling legend and National Heritage Fellowship winner Bob Holt.
The New Pleasant Valley String Band is a square dance band based in Fort Collins. Founded and lead by Bob Zuellig, NPVSB aims to bring square dance music from the Ozark dance traditions to dancers in Colorado. In the early 20th century, Colorado had many fiddle contests and dances. Many of these dances featured the stylings of the Missouri fiddle traditions. The name of the band is taken from a previous square dance band from the Fort Collins area who was active in the early 20th century.
