Workshop Information

Description:

Spousal death is a life changing biopsychosocial-spiritual experience that a growing number of women over the age of 65 navigate yearly. The population often derives comfort from their religion/spiritual worldview and may seek guidance within the coping domain. This engaging, case-based session discusses ethical strategies for integrating the religion/spiritual domain across therapeutic processes and utilizing Spiritually-Oriented CBT methods in advancing the meaning-making process and inner life adjustment of bereaved older adult women. The session includes best practices in assessment and treatment relevant to supporting those navigating identity, social role, self-esteem, or psychological health changes.

Learning Objectives:

1. Compare and contrast the characteristics of religion and spirituality in relation to assessment and treatment.

2. Discuss practical strategies for integrating the religion/spiritual domain across therapeutic processes in accordance with the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics.

3. Discuss Spiritually-Oriented CBT methods in relation to assessment and treatment of spousal bereaved older adult women.

4. Apply best practices in spiritual integration across therapeutic processes to practice through case study analysis.

5. Translate Spiritually-Oriented CBT methods to practice utilizing a case study.
