Information

Hey Northside Neighbors!

Every person who has lived in our Compassion Homes has lived through a night sleeping in a shelter, in their car or in the elements outdoors.  People without homes are your neighbors, and experiencing what some of your neighbors face on a daily basis opens your eyes to the world around you.

What is Campout for Neighbors?

Come together for a night under the stars at our first annual Campout for Neighbors, a fundraiser event for Northside Compassion Project transitional housing. This overnight experience will educate and inspire a better understanding of homelessness. Funds raised will directly support Compassion Homes, our transitional housing through the Northside Compassion Project.

How do I Campout?

Reserve 1 parking spot for 1 night to sleep in the parking lot at Northside Community Church -  in your car, in a tent or in a sleeping bag.

Each parking spot is $40.

The parking lot spots will be designated as either Car, Tent or Open Air.

Spots are First Come, First Serve.

What happens at Campout?

During Campout, you will take overnight shelter in your outdoor spot and engage in more learning indoors at Northside, including a simple dinner and breakfast provided by local partners. Hear from our community partners about their work supporting neighbors through shelter and food insecurities. Plus, help your neighbors in real time with activities and games geared for neighbor-focused fun.

Know before you go:

  • Less is More -   Bring only what you can carry in a small bag or backpack. Suggestions include a change of clothes, sink-use toiletries (dental, eye care, etc.) and baby wipes or a washcloth.
  • Leave your backpack/bag for a neighbor - Upgrade your experience with the ultimate giveback.  Since you will Campout only with items you can carry with you, consider donating your backpack or bag to a local shelter. We will have a station setup for you to donate your bag forward.  Plastic bags will be on hand to carry your stuff home.Your backpack could help a local neighbor get back on their feet as they navigate next steps.
  • Safety first – no weapons or alcohol will be permitted onsite.
  • Tent Campout Tips – You will not be able to stake your tent in the ground in the paved parking lot.   Bring sandbags or weights to stabilize your tent within your parking space.
  • Leave the electronics at home – This includes handheld games, movie players, etc. You will not have access to outlets and will have plenty of activities going on to stay engaged. Instead, bring a pack of playing cards.

Campout for Neighbors coincides with World Homelessness Day on October 10th.  We have local stories of homelessness in our corner of the world too.  At Campout for Neighbors, come with open hearts and open minds to learn seeing and supporting neighbors - ALL of your neighbors - experiencing homelessness.  We hope to see you October 7-8!
