Description:
Clients’/Patients’ worldview on religion and spirituality heavily shapes their approach to life-changing situations and coping practices. Social workers often feel comfortable discussing religion/spirituality as part of the assessment process while limitations exist in comfort with the “how to” aspect of integrating the subject across therapeutic processes. This interactive, case-based workshop examines best practice strategies for effectively and ethically interweaving clients’/patients’ religious/spiritual strengths and challenges across treatment. Participants will apply the profession’s Code of Ethics and Forester-Miller and Davis’ seven-step model to practice as part of the cultural competence advancing session.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the relevance of engaging clients’/patients’ religion/spiritual worldview across therapeutic processes.
2. Examine best strategies for integrating clients’/patients’ religious/spiritual strengths/challenges across therapeutic processes
3. Apply Forester-Miller and Davis’ seven-step model for ethical decision-making, Code of Ethics, and strategies to a case study.
