Event Description

The Lawrence Hopewell Trail invites cyclists and walkers to experience the magic of Mercer Meadows Park under September's full moon during the Full Moon Bike Ride on September 26. The beloved six-mile loop returns as a signature community celebration, joined by the Full Moon Walk — a one-mile moonlight stroll along the scenic Stony Brook.

The nonprofit Lawrence Hopewell Trail and the Mercer County Park Commission present this evening of fun, family, friends, music, and moonlight that goes far beyond a typical bike ride.

Registration takes place at the Rosedale Lake section of Mercer Meadows Park in Pennington. Participants are invited to enjoy the pre and post-ride festivities of DJ entertainment, food vendors Thai Cha Chak and Nosh Empanadas, and a campfire with s'mores near Rosedale Lake. The Full Moon Bike Ride is open to adults and children aged 12 and above and the Walk is open to all ages. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

T-Shirts: Event t-shirts are available for purchase online in advance and will not be available for sale at the event. Be sure to place your order before the event to secure yours! https://lhtrail.org/shop/

Safety: Helmets are required by law for riders under 18, although the Lawrence Hopewell Trail encourages all riders to wear helmets. Front and rear bike lights are required, as moonlight alone will not adequately illuminate wooded trail sections. Bikes with narrow road tires are not suitable for this route, as some sections feature stone dust surfaces.

Q&A

Q:  HOW DO I REGISTER?
A:  Registration is easy.  Go to https://www.ticketsignup.io/TicketEvent/FullMoonRide. Everyone must register whether you ride, walk, or just enjoy the other fun aspects of the evening.

Q:  WILL THERE BE ON-SITE REGISTRATION?
A:  Yes, you can register at the Full Moon Bike Ride or Walk, as long as we have not sold out. We urge participants to register in advance as the event is limited to 500 riders. Participants who do not ride or walk must also register.

Q:  HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?
A:  Get your tickets EARLY! The 2-week early bird rate is $20 for riders and walkers ages 12 to 17, and $25 for
adult riders and walkers. Regular registration is $30 ($25 for kids); and day of event registration is $35 ($30 for kids).
Group rates for riders are available. Contact info@lhtrail.org to register groups. There is no fee for non-riders / walkers, but a donation is requested.

Q:  WHY DO I HAVE TO REGISTER IF I AM NOT RIDING or WALKING?
A:  We ask everyone to register so that we can plan for the number of participants, whether they are riding, walking or not. We also need to have all guests sign the waiver.

Q:  HOW SKILLED A RIDER DO I NEED TO BE TO PARTICIPATE?
A:  The Full Moon Bike ride is suitable for all experience levels. You must be able to complete the six-mile route.

Q:  WHAT IS THE NATURE OF THE ROUTE?
A:  The ride generally follows a flat route on wide paved and packed gravel paths for six miles. It takes, on average, about 30-40 minutes at a casual pace. The walk is along packed gravel and is a little over 1 mile roundtrip.

Q:  WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON THE RIDE?
A: The most special part of the ride is being able to travel through the park under a full moon! While on your journey there are musicians and beautifully lighted sections of trail to add to the experience.

Q:  WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE?
A: Sunset on September 26 is around 7 PM, and moonrise around 7:30 PM. Before the bike ride or walk, attendees are invited to purchase dinner from one of our food vendors, decorate their bikes, listen to the DJ, or enjoy the campfire.
Participants are encouraged to arrive by 7 to check-in. When you check-in, you will be assigned a GROUP color. GROUPS will be called by color to notify you when it is your turn to ride. The first GROUP will ride at 7:30, followed by additional GROUPS every 10 minutes.

Q:  SHOULD I DECORATE MY BIKE?
A:  We encourage bike decorating. One glow stick will be given to each participant, but we encourage you to plan ahead and bring your own decorations.

Q:  WILL FULL MOON RIDE TEE SHIRTS BE AVAILABLE THIS YEAR?
A:  Yes, t-shirts are available for online purchase in advance on our shop: https://lhtrail.org/shop/

Q:  WHY ARE YOUNG CHILDREN NOT PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BIKE RIDE?

A:  We understand that some children under 12 are accomplished riders, but we have no way of knowing that. For the safety of children, as well as all others, we have made the decision to limit participation to those over 12.  Children ages 12 to 17 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Kids 12 and under can participate in the walk (accompanied by an adult).

Q:  WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN IN CARRIERS?
A:  We leave it to parents to decide whether to bring children in bike carriers. Children under 12 cannot be on their own bikes.

Q:  IT IS GOING TO BE DARK OUT.  IS IT SAFE TO RIDE or WALK?
A:  The LHT and the Mercer County Park rangers have done everything they can to make sure riders are safe.
The trail will be checked before the event. Rangers and volunteers will be posted along the way to keep the riders moving safely and to address any issues that might arise. Of course, we need your help in making sure that you are safe.
The LHT encourages helmets for all riders for safety reasons, and per New Jersey state law, all riders under 17 are required to wear a helmet.
Participation also requires the use of a front bike light, and we highly recommend a rear bike light too. Moonlight, even on a clear night, will not fully light the trail in the woods. Walkers can bring a flashlight, and there will be small lights along the way,

Q:  WHAT IF MY BIKE MALFUNCTIONS?
A:  We will have volunteers on hand to help with unexpected repairs. However, we strongly encourage a degree of self-sufficiency as well. Bring an extra tube or repair kit in a backpack or in the car.

Q: WILL THERE BE PARKING?
A:  There will be parking in the lot near the Mercer Meadows Dog Park and Rosedale Lake area. We encourage carpooling whenever possible.

Q: MERCER MEADOWS PARK IS A BIG PLACE, ARE THERE DIRECTIONS TO THE STARTING AREA?
A: The event starts and ends at the parking lot at Rosedale Lake.  The entrance is located along Federal City Road, between Blackwell Road and Old Mill Road in Pennington, New Jersey.  You can find the location using google map locator - https://goo.gl/maps/5L9CrQcMuj82

Q:  ARE THERE RESTROOMS AVAILABLE?
A: Yes, restrooms will be available at Rosedale Lake.

Q:  WILL FOOD AND BEVERAGES BE AVAILABLE?
A: Weather permitting, there will be a campfire to roast a marshmallow and make a s’more (ingredients
provided). There will also be food vendors including Thai Cha Chak and Nosh Empanadas! However, it is always a good idea to bring some water with you!

Q:  IS THERE A RAIN DATE?
A:  The rain date for the Full Moon Ride is Sunday, September 27, 2026. If rain forces the change, the program will be limited to the bike ride (without lights and music along the way).

Q:  WHY SHOULD I DONATE?
A:  The LHT is a free amenity open to everyone. It is designed, built, and managed by the Lawrence Hopewell Trail Corporation, a nonprofit organization. Most of the work associated with creating and maintaining the trail has been, and continues to be, done by volunteers who raise the funds to make the trail a reality. The LHT continues to assist with completing the final few segments of trail as well as work to connect with other communities, add amenities and trail improvements, and support trail development in the region.

Q:  HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER FOR THE FULL MOON RIDE / WALK?
A:  If you are interested in volunteering for the Full Moon Bike Ride or to support the LHT in general, contact us at info@lhtrail.org and tell us about your skills and availability.
