Description:

The nation’s grief-denying mentality and limited community-based grief interventions is concerning to societal well-being. This interactive and case-based workshop examines the grief literacy movement in connection with the mission and ethical principles of the social work profession. Attendees will gain practical knowledge and skills applicable to enhancing the well-being of vulnerable persons in their community. This is part of a wider initiative to advance best practice and clinical competence in bereavement care.

Learning Objectives:

            1. Discuss normal and complicated manifestations of grief.

            2. Summarize the grief literacy movement.

            3. Illustrate the ethical principles of competence and importance of human relationships in connection with grief literacy.

            4. Design a grief literacy initiative in small groups using a case study.
