Event Description
High Bridge Trail State Park invites you to experience nature’s light show like never before!
Join us atop the historic High Bridge for a breathtaking view as thousands of nonsynchronous fireflies illuminate the treetops below. Our Park Ranger will share engaging and insightful information about these fascinating creatures — uncovering what makes their glow so mesmerizing and their behavior so unique.
Don’t miss the chance to witness the magic of fireflies from one of Virginia’s most stunning viewpoints.
Tickets are required for entry and are only sold in advance with no refunds.
No refunds or tickets sold at the gate.
The standard parking fee is included with your ticket price. This event will be held rain or shine.
No pets allowed at the event.

Schedule of Events
7:00 p.m. - Gates Open
7:00-10:30 p.m. - Festivities: Food trucks and souvenirs to purchase. Bug tent to explore. High Bridge open.
9:00-9:15 p.m. - Welcome: Introduction to High Bridge Trail State Park at the Appomattox Overlook on High Bridge.
9:15-9:45 p.m. - Firefly Talk: Meet on High Bridge at the Appomattox River Overlook to be introduced to the natural world of fireflies under High Bridge.
9:45-11:00 p.m. - Self-guided Exploration: Witness nature's fireflies on your own. Stroll across High Bridge to fully experience nature's summer night miracle.

- Is there accessible parking?
- Handicapped parking is available upon request. Please let the parking attendant know when you arrive.
- Can I buy a ticket at the event/gate?
- No. Each person must have a prepaid ticket to gain entry.
- No tickets will be sold at the gate or by phone.
- Are wheelchairs allowed?
- Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome.
- If you bring a chair for firefly viewing, please do not block the path of pedestrian traffic.
- Can I bring my pet?
- No pets allowed at this event.
- What if I need to cancel?
- No refunds.
- Your ticket cannot be changed to an alternate night.
- What if it rains or it's bad weather?
- The Firefly Festival is rain or shine and will not be rescheduled.
- Where do I park?
- Parking is located at 1466 Camp Paradise Road, Rice, VA 23966.
- All other entrances to High Bridge will be closed during this event.
- Can I bring food/drink?
- Outside food and drinks are allowed.
- NO ALCOHOL IS PERMITTED.
- Will there be food available?
- Food trucks will be available for you to purchase amazing local fare.
- How can I get a souvenir?
- One of a kind firefly souvenirs, t-shirts, hats and more will be available for purchase.
- Can I take pictures?
- Yes.
- No flash photography on High Bridge.
- Can I use a flashlight?
- Yes, but only on the trail leading up to High Bridge.
- Regular flashlights will disturb participants's night vision.
- Red lights and glow sticks are ok to use on High Bridge.
