Event Description
Some important things to remember:
-Staging begins at 9am at and the location is Western Oregon University. Rotary volunteers will help you navigate to the staging area and maps will be provided to participants.
-Please fill the gaps to ensure we can get in as many floats as possible.
-If you have more than one float/car in your group, please arrive together. You WILL NOT be able to hold space for other vehicles once you get into the staging area. There is a parking lot on the east side of Monmouth Avenue and Stadium where you can wait for your entire party to arrive if you want to be together on the route.
-NO CONFETTI: Last year we has some amazing confetti guns, and while they looked super cool, they created a huge mess for the Public Works team that took months to clean. We ask that you do not use confetti as a decor. VIOLATIONS IN THIS RULE CAN LEAD TO CITY FINES AND EXPULSION FROM PARTICIPATION IN FUTURE PARADES.
-No entry shall be allowed that depicts, advocates or opposes any political or social cause. The parade celebrates Independence Day. Please have your entry support our theme. Offensive entries may be removed from the parade. This included political parties and candidates. Please focus decor on the ties that bind us. What does this mean, exactly? Candidates and political parties CAN be involved in the parade. Signs that say "Vote for So&So" will be fine. But signs that say, "Vote for So&So because I believe in ____________ and will end _________ by standing up for __________ ," will be unwelcomed. Signs that say your current title; such as Mayor, Commissioner, etc are welcomed. Signs from political parties are fine if they say who you are but do not say, "We are ____! And we believe in ___________!" When in doubt, keep it simple.
-We ask that you walk the candy to participants and avoid throwing it. Children may run out in front of oncoming parade traffic to retrieve candy so please plan accordingly to have someone walk the candy to spectators.
-Do not squirt water at spectators unless requested. Violators may be removed from the parade.
-Fire extinguishers may be required by the parade chair or Fire Marshal at their discretion.
-No written or other material may be handed out along the parade route without the express permission of the parade chair.
-All animals must be trained and kept under control at all times.
-The Rotary Club shall have full authority to exclude any entry deemed hazardous to participants/observers at any time during the parade.
-Any entrant that willfully violates any law or whose actions are deemed dangerous at any time along the parade route will be removed from the parade.
-Violators will not be entitled to an entry fee refund.
