Jimmy Webb

Jimmy Webb grew up in Florence, MS and was raised on Holstein dairy farm. He was a member of state championship 4-H Dairy Judging team in 1968. He played football for Coach Sam Newman at Florence High.
In 1971, Webb went to Mississippi State to continue his football career. His junior season he was named 1st team All-SEC and All-SEC Academic. His senior season the accolades kept coming with selections to 1st team All-American by Kodak, Churchmen's, Walter Camp, & Game Plan magazine, as well as 1st team All-SEC. Jimmy had 90 tackles and 6 quarterback sacks for -34 yards. He also batted down 4 passes at the line of scrimmage. Webb is considered one of the greatest defensive linemen in Mississippi State football history.
In 1975, Jimmy Webb was drafted in the first round by the San Francisco 49ers. He spent six seasons with the 49ers and then played for the San Diego Chargers in 1981. Over his NFL career, Jimmy played in 106 games, started 74 games, and had 6 fumble recoveries. No stats were kept by the league at that time for tackles, TFLs, or sacks, however, one local sportswriter commented that Jimmy spent so much time in opponents’ backfields that he should be arrested for trespassing.
Following Webb's NFL career, he continued his passion of veterinary work. He was the Director of Embryo Transfer in West Turlock, CA from 1985 to 2017. In addition to being inducted into the MS Sports Hall of Fame, Jimmy is also a member of the Mississippi State Athletic Hall of Fame and named an SEC Legend in 1995. He was named to the 75th Anniversary All-Sun Bowl team in 2008.
