The Manitowoc Police Department's K9 program features two active police dogs, “Riley” and “Rolo,” both of whom are Belgian Malinois. Typically, the working lifespan of a police dog ranges from five to seven years. Additionally, our program is proud to have four retired police working dogs: “Aik,” “Ully,” “Major,” and “Neko.”
The K9 program was launched in 2010, and the K9 program has primarily been sustained through generous donations and grants. We aim to continue fundraising to support a multi-unit K9 team and to cover the daily operational costs associated with the program. The funds will be allocated for: Police vehicles, Essential equipment for the K9 units, Training and certifications necessary to ensure team effectiveness, and Miscellaneous expenses to support the program, such as food and medical/veterinary care.
Our objective is to maximize the impact of this incredible program within our community for years to come.
Thanks to some of our fundraising efforts, we have established a partnership with the Lakeshore Community Foundation by creating a preservation fund dedicated to further K9 program expenses.
