The Potato Days Chalk Art Contest has quickly become a festival favorite — but the sidewalk masterpieces are what keep people coming back.

Now entering its third year, the contest brings together artists of all ages to turn the pavement into a gallery of bold colors and potato-themed creativity. From mash-worthy cartoons to fine art parodies, each square tells a story — often with a side of humor.

Winners are selected in youth, teen, and adult divisions, with one lucky artist earning the coveted Crowd Favorite title. It’s a playful reminder that in Idaho, even chalk and tubers make a perfect pair.
Terms & Conditions
The Potato Days 2025 Chalk Art Contest will take place Friday, September 19, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kleiner Memorial Park. By participating in the contest, all entrants agree to the following terms and conditions:

 
⏰ Time Limit
All artwork must be completed within the 2-hour contest window.
The contest begins promptly at 6:00 PM and ends at 8:00 PM.
Public voting will begin the following day during the festival.
 
? Materials
Bring your own chalk! 
Artists may bring additional chalk or tools but must use only non-permanent, washable sidewalk chalk.
No paint, markers, spray chalk, or permanent materials allowed.
 
? Space Assignment
Each participant or team will be assigned a designated sidewalk square upon check-in.
Only artwork within the assigned square will be eligible for judging.
 
?‍? Eligibility & Divisions
Open to all ages. Divisions include:

Youth (12 & under)
Teen (13–17)
Adult (18+)
Teams of up to 3 people are allowed but must enter the age category of the oldest member.
 
? Judging & Prizes
Winners will be selected by public vote.
Prizes will be awarded in each division, including a Crowd Favorite chosen by public vote.

Winners will be announced on Sunday, September 21st at 4pm (just before the winner of the Great Potato Days Ford Truck Giveaway) on the main stage.

All artwork must be family-friendly.
Potato-themed designs are required.
The contest will proceed rain or shine, unless conditions become unsafe.
By participating, artists give permission for their work and likeness to be photographed and shared by Potato Days LLC for promotional purposes.
