What is SciFlix?
SciFlix is a community outreach effort designed to openly and honestly discuss science, theories, and ethics in popular fiction. Films begin at 6:30 p.m. in Regnier Hall Auditorium. Following the film, our moderator will introduce a panel of experts who provide their reactions to the film along with an audience Q&A session.
The Oct. 9, 2026 movie, "Project Hail Mary" will start at 6:00 due to the length of the movie.
Fargo

Fargo was wrritten, directed, produced and edited by Joel and Ethan Coen. It stars Frances McDormand, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, Harve Presnell, and Peter Stormare.
McDormand plays pregnant police chief Marge Gunderson, who investigates after a car salesman, Jerry Lundegaard (Macy), hires two dimwitted criminals (Buscemi and Stormare) to kidnap his wife to extort a ransom from her wealthy father.
Fargo was nominated for 5 academy awards, with McDormand winning best actress & the Coen brothers winning for best original screenplay.
After the movie, stay for a discussion about crime and police work with our director of KU's Criminal Justice program, Susan Whitford and adjunct professor Andrew Whitford.
Dr. Susan C. Whitford is a distinguished expert in the field of criminal justice, renowned for her extensive contributions in academia and professional practice. With more than 20 years of each industry experience and academic teaching, she has created a significant presence in the field as she contributes to the shaping the way law enforcement agencies analyze and combat crime, and how that is delivered, embraced, and practiced by higher education students.
Dr. Andrew Whitford retired from law enforcement after 28 years. During this time, he worked as a patrol officer, crime analyst, fraud detective, homicide detective, and patrol sergeant. He has been teaching since 2015.
