
Spiedie Fest Backyard Chef Spiedie Cooking Contest

Think you have a great recipe? Enter to be one of our Backyard Chefs and compete for prizes totaling over $800.
• Overall Grand Champion will receive the Backyard Chef Grand Champion Belt and an Ooni Outdoor Pizza Oven. Total value of grand prizes $580.
• To encourage contestants 18 years old or younger to carry on the Spiedie cooking tradition there will be a category for “Emerging Spiedie Chefs” competing for the Founder’s Award of $100 sponsored by Rob Salamida and Paul VanSavage.
Entrants will also be competing for all the other prizes.
• Best Decorated Booth will receive an engraved “Best of Show” trophy.
• 1st Place in each category will receive a $100 gift certificate to P.S. Restaurant.
• 2nd Place in each category will receive a $50 gift certificate to Kampai Japanese Steak House.
• 3rd Place in each category will receive a $25 gift certificate to Lost Dog Café.
• Additional gift certificates from local restaurants will be awarded randomly.
There will be four categories to choose from. Lamb, Chicken, Pork or Non-Traditional
(Beef, Venison, Vegetarian, etc.)
Not a cook? Stop by and watch the contestants grilling their favorites. Aprons and t-shirts that feature the original Spiedie Fest logo by Johnny Hart, creator B.C and Wizard of Id comics, will be available to purchase.

RULES:
1. Contestants 18 and under will be enrolled in the Emerging Spiedie Chef category and must be accompanied by some over the age of 21.
2. Contestants may have one adult present in the cooking area.
3. You must prepare your own marinade. Purchased Spiedies or marinades are not allowed. Please bring 3 pounds of Spiedies along with skewers.
4. We will provide a grill, charcoal, lighter fluid, bread and a one-day parking permit. Contestants must use the grill that is provided. Additional charcoal may the added and the use of starter chimney, lighter fluid or torch is permitted. Grills are not to be lighted until the announcement “Contestants, Light Your Grills”.
5. Spiedies may be skewered ahead of time. Three Spiedie sandwiches should be placed in the provided presentation box and delivered to the reception. Professional chefs, restaurants, grocery stores or other vendors of Spiedies or marinades ae not eligible to enter the Backyard Chef Spiedie Cooking Contest.
6. Specific cooking station location requests to accommodate proximity to family or friends must be made when registering. Changes cannot be accommodated the day of the contest. Please note any requests in the Comment section of the application.
7. Contestants agree to allow their name and photograph to be used in any Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally promotional effort without further compensation.
8. A One-Day Parking Pass will be mailed to you.
