Description:
The nation’s grief-denying mentality and limited community-based interventions to support bereaved persons is a rising public health concern. This interactive and case-based workshop examines the evolving grief literacy movement in connection with the mission and ethical principles of the social work profession. Attendees will gain forefront knowledge and practice skills in grief literacy initiative development applicable to enhancing the well-being of vulnerable persons in diverse professional settings.
Learning Objectives:
1. Compare and contrast normal and complicated manifestations of grief.
2. Summarize the grief literacy movement.
3. Recognize the dual focus and ethical principles of the social work profession in the context of grief literacy.
4. Design a grief literacy initiative in small groups using a case study.

NASW-PA Chapter is a co-sponsor of this workshop. 3 Ethics CEs will be awarded for completion of this course. NASW has been designated as a pre-approved provider of professional continuing education for social workers (Section 47.36), Marriage and Family Therapist (Section 48.36) and Professional Counselors (Section 49.36) by the PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists and Professional Counselors.
