Workshop Details
Description:
Spousal bereavement is considered the most stressful life experience persons confront across the lifespan. The highest reported COVID-19 death rates among persons 65 plus and rapidly expanding aging population heightens the potential that social workers in diverse settings will encounter bereaved older adult women. Drawing on the meaning reconstruction approach, this workshop discusses the function of spirituality in the well-being of later life widows and best practice methods of care. The interactive learning opportunity includes a small group case study activity.
Learning Objectives:
1. Compare and contrast religiosity and spirituality.
2. Describe the function of spirituality in the health of bereaved older adult women.
3. Construct a case study in small groups focusing on a spiritual issue that a bereaved older adult woman may experience.
4. Demonstrate application of the meaning reconstruction approach to practice.
