We are excited to offer an afternoon of dance calling instruction with Phil Jamison at The Todd Mercantile and Blackburns' Chapel on Saturday afternoon, November 7th from 1-5pm, followed by a kids-only dance from 5-5:30, then a potluck at 5:30pm and community dance at 7:00pm.
No previous calling experience needed, and we also welcome folks who just want to dance the afternoon away!
Thanks to generous donations from the Ashe County Community Foundation and the Center for Appalachian Studies at Appalachian State University, we are able to offer this event free to anyone who wants to attend but cannot pay. However, if you are able, we kindly ask that you donate what you can to support the future of The Todd Promenade and The Todd CommUnity Dances. All ticket purchases and additional donations go directly to the workshop instructors, callers, and musicians who make these events possible.

1:30-3:00: Dance Calling 101 - Introduction to dance calling; anyone can do it!
3:00-3:30: Break
3:30-5:00: Dance Calling 102 - Easy dances to teach and call
Additional Workshops
1:30-3:00: Music for square dancing with Cecil Gurganus, Grayson McQuire, Paul Brown, Daniel Sherrill, and Nancy Mamlin (for intermediate and advanced musicians) at The Todd Mercantile
3:00-3:30: Break
3:30-5:00: Flatfoot dancing at The Todd Mercantile
5:00-5:30: Sound system set up with Cecil Gurganus and Daniel Sherrill at Blackburn's Chapel
Evening events at The Todd Mercantile
5-5:30: Kids-only Dance (kids playing and kids dancing; Nancy Mamlin calling)
5:30: Evening potluck
7:00: Community dance (workshop participants will have the opportunity to call a dance)
Cost
$15-$30 sliding scale for the workshop (inclusive of evening dance).
$5-$10 suggested donation for the evening dance only.
