Behind every mask is a story - and for some, that story includes overcoming unimaginable hardship.
At Unmasking Hope, your donation supports renovations for Mahalia's Place (Domestic Violence Shelter) bathrooms - spaces that offer survivors a moment of peace, privacy, and dignity during their healing journey.

About Mahalia’s Place:
In 2025, Tri-County Community Action Agency officially renamed its Domestic Violence Shelter in memory of Mahalia Townes, a young woman whose life was tragically taken in Halifax County in 2021 due to domestic violence. Mahalia endured years of abuse at the hands of her partner, the father of her two daughters. Throughout her journey, Tri-County provided support to help her break free from the cycle of violence. Despite encouragement from loved ones to leave the relationship, her deep emotional ties made it difficult to walk away. In 2024, her abuser pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree murder and domestic assault in the death of Mahalia.
