UNMASKING HOPE
A Masquerade Ball
Join us for an evening of elegance, mystery, and purpose as we come together to support survivors in our community. All proceeds will support renovations of the bathrooms at Mahalia’s Place (Domestic Violence Shelter), helping create a safe, dignified space for those rebuilding their lives.
Behind every mask is a story. Some stories are joyful. Some are still being written. And some belong to individuals who are quietly rebuilding their lives after experiencing domestic violence.
This Masquerade Ball is more than an elegant evening – it is an opportunity to create tangible change. The funds raised will directly support Mahalia’s Place by helping remodel their bathrooms, transforming them into safe, dignified, and welcoming spaces for survivors and their families.
Together, we can help create a space where healing begins – one room at a time.
Formal attire & masquerade masks encouraged.
About Mahalia’s Place
In 2025, Tri-County Community Action Agency officially renamed its Domestic Violence Shelter in memory of Mahalia Townes, a young woman whose life was tragically taken in Halifax County in 2021 due to domestic violence. Mahalia endured years of abuse at the hands of her partner, the father of her two daughters. Throughout her journey, Tri-County provided support to help her break free from the cycle of violence. Despite encouragement from loved ones to leave the relationship, her deep emotional ties made it difficult to walk away. In 2024, her abuser pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree murder and domestic assault in the death of Mahalia.
