"At age 17, I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. When you get a shocking and life-threatening diagnosis right when you are about to head to college, you learn a lot about yourself and your goals for the future.... I continued to explore my passion of giving back to the cancer population through University of Florida Shands Hospital’s Streetlight volunteer program. During my time with Streetlight, I have had many meaningful and lasting connections with patients.... After much soul searching, I know I want to become a pediatric oncologist. My want to be a doctor since [I was] a child just needed a life-changing experience to fuel the desire and remind me of my reasons of wanting to go this route." - Claire S.
"On the 28th of February 2022, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Large B-Cell Lymphoma, an aggressively treated form of cancer…. Even though the road to remission wasn’t without setbacks, I was stronger in mind and spirit to face every issue because of my mom. For my entire life, it has been the two of us tackling problems.... We faced adversity head on. It was a long and slow process, but we never stopped fighting…. Telling my story not only opened my heart to healing, but to offer support, raise awareness for the disease, celebrate the fight against it, and find strength in the fear of loss.” - Jayden S.
In Memory of Jamie Lynn Bradford
September 8th, 2000 - January 10th, 2026
Jamie Lynn Bradford was a Big Bill Foundation scholarship recepient in 2023. Jamie Lynn lost her battle with cancer at the age of 2025 in January 2026.
"Jamie Lynn had a spirit that no one could ever squash. Even through the hardest days, she remained determined, brave, and unwavering. She never gave up — Her strength was extraordinary, but what defined her most was her heart. Jamie Lynn was a force within her family—steady, loyal, and selfless—always putting others before herself.
Cancer did not define Jamie Lynn. She continued doing the things she loved most and spending time with the people she cared most for. Jamie Lynn loved the snow, and it brought her genuine joy. Snowboarding was one of her greatest passions—something she loved deeply and embraced with the same courage and determination she brought to everything in life. Jamie Lynn proudly considered herself the best athlete in the family, and she truly was. She ran, played golf, and in high school she was on the track team and was a quarterback in flag football. She also enjoyed traveling. She never said no to a fun trip—whether it was across the country or to another country. She truly lived while she was here."
