Event Description

Join The Mission to Prevent Veteran Suicide!

This is a unique in-person education/training session which is being held to teach the Columbia Protocol to support The American Legion's veteran suicide prevention mission.
The American Legion is committed to reducing veteran suicide through its Be the One mission by empowering individuals to end the stigma surrounding mental health to save lives. To support this effort, The American Legion and Columbia University Lighthouse Project provide free suicide prevention training by using the Columbia Protocol, the leading evidence-based tool for suicide risk screening.
The Columbia Protocol Training will be a 2-hour in-person session that provides a simple, clear framework to identify suicidal thoughts and behaviors, enabling anyone to confidently ask the right questions and take action. Three master trainers from Columbia University Lighthouse Project will be our faculty for this session.  This training is FREE and is limited to 150 participants.  Register early to avoid missing this opportunity!

This session is made possible by donors throughout the DeKalb County community and participants in the Annual Be the One Walk.  It will be instrumental in helping veteran, community, and professional members of the community understand behaviors that might indicate imminent risk, identify risk factors and warning signs, and feel comfortable communicating with someone at risk of hurting themselves.
