Description:
Preparing family caregivers of persons with a serious illness or terminal condition emotionally, cognitively, and practically for changes in a loved one’s health or impending death minimizes uncertainty and increases self-efficacy. This interactive, case-based workshop discusses three dimensions of preparation in connection with well-being advancing strategies that foster informal providers readiness for the death and healthy mental health during bereavement. Drawing on the Stress-Coping Model, the session outlines best practices and practical methods for enhancing caregiver health utilizing caregiver-centered therapeutic approaches.
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the biopsychosocial-spiritual effect of serious/terminal illness caregiving on informal providers health in relation to assessment and treatment.
2. Discuss caregiver well-being advancing strategies in connection with three dimensions of preparation for the death and bereavement experience across therapeutic processes.
3. Analyze case studies utilizing caregiver-centered assessment and treatment methods and the strategies.
4. Apply the best practices and practical methods to practice using a case study.
