Event Basics
What is Recover & Recharge?
Recover & Recharge is a wellness-focused recovery day for runners hosted by Sports Backers’ President’s Council. The event features cold plunge and sauna sessions (wood-fire heated), gentle yoga, physical therapy screening, and opportunities to connect with fellow runners.
When and where is the event?
- Date: Sunday, October 26
- Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Location: Sports Backers offices, 4921 Lakeside Avenue, Henrico, VA
Who hosts the event?
The event is planned and executed by Sports Backers young professionals group, the President's Council.
What does my participation support?
All proceeds benefit Sports Backers’, a Richmond region non-profit whose mission is to inspire active living across the Richmond region. Sports Backers fulfills our mission by energizing the community through events, advocating for bike and pedestrian infrastructure, and providing education and training to passionate community volunteers to spearhead active living at the local level.
Registration & Tickets
How do I sign up?
Tickets must be reserved in advance. Space is limited, so we recommend securing your spot early.
Do I need separate tickets for yoga and the cold plunge/sauna?
Yes, timed tickets are required for each activity. You may register for one or both, depending on availability.
How much do tickets cost?
The sauna/cold plunge is $45 ($49.50 with processing fees) and yoga is $10 ($12 after processing fees).
Can I just show up on the day of the event?
Walk-ups will be allowed only if space is available, but advance registration is strongly recommended.
Are tickets refundable or transferable?
No, tickets are not refundable or transferable
Activities & Schedule
What activities are included?
- Cold Plunge & Sauna: Outdoor sessions offered on the hour (the sauna is wood-fire heated).
- Gentle Yoga: 45-minute guided recovery sessions starting at 11 am and 12 pm.
- Physical Therapy Screening: Physical therapists will be available to answer questions and concerns about injuries, and current aches and pains.
What time should I arrive?
We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before your scheduled session to check in and get settled.
How long are the sessions?
- Cold Plunge & Sauna: Is an hour long session. Participants will move back and forth between the sauna and cold plunge as directed.
- Gentle Yoga: 45 minutes
What is physical therapy screening?
Physical therapists will be available to answer questions and concerns about injries, and current aches and pains. The therapists will also be able to perform a quick assessment and provide suggestions for exercises, to help address any concerns. The phyical therapists can also provide advice on stretches and warm up exercises to prepare you for race day, and recovery.
Therapists present will be Dr. Heather Capozzella, DPT, Dr. Alex Murphy, DPT, and Dr. Brent Schlesman, DPT.
What to Bring & Wear
What should I wear?
- For yoga: Comfortable, flexible clothing.
- For the cold plunge/sauna: A swimsuit, towel, and change of clothes.
Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?
You are welcome to bring your own mat but mats will be available for use.
Will there be changing areas available?
Yes, we will have a changing tent along with private bathrooms for changing.
Should I bring water?
We recommend bringing a water bottle. Hydration stations will also be available on-site.
Event Logistics
Is parking available?
Yes, free parking is available on the street within walking distance of the Sports Backers offices.
Is the event outdoors or indoors?
- Cold plunge and sauna will take place outdoors.
- Yoga will be outside but we will move inside upon inclement weather.
Will there be food or drinks available?
Yes, Parousia Coffee will have their coffee trailer there, selling beverages.
Can I stay for the whole event even if I only register for one session?
Yes! We encourage you to hang out, meet other runners, talk with the physical therapist, and enjoy the community atmosphere.
Accessibility & Safety
Is the event beginner-friendly?
Yes, yoga will be a gentle flow suitable for all levels, and all recovery sessions are designed with runners of every level in mind.
Are there any health restrictions?
Participants with medical conditions (such as heart issues, pregnancy, or sensitivity to extreme temperatures) should consult their doctor before participating in cold plunge or sauna sessions.
Will there be staff to guide me?
Yes, SaunaPlungeRVA, a local Sauna/Cold Plunge company will be providing the saunas and cold plunges and walking participants through the process. And yoga will be led by a certified Yoga instructor.

This event is designed for adults.
Can I bring a friend who isn’t a runner?
Yes, the event is open to anyone interested in wellness and recovery.
Will photos be taken at the event?
Yes, Sports Backers may take photos and videos to use for promotional purposes.
