Keynote Speech by Dr. Edward Breitschwerdt
Dr. Breitschwerdt is a practicing veterinary internist and a leading infectious disease researcher at the Intracellular Pathogens Research Laboratory and the Vector-Borne Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at North Carolina State University. He is also the co-founder of Galaxy Diagnostics, where the company advances diagnostic testing for Bartonella, Borrelia, and other vector-borne diseases.
As a founding member of the Bartonella research community for more than 30 years, Dr. Breitschwerdt's research team has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles on the subject. We are excited to welcome him as the opening keynote speaker for ICBEP11!

This session will highlight the latest advances in understanding Bartonella infections in both human and animal health. Topics include clinical case reports and case series, disease presentation and progression, diagnostic approaches, treatment strategies, patient outcomes, and emerging therapeutic interventions. Presentations focused on translational research are encouraged, particularly those that bridge basic science discoveries with clinical and veterinary applications. The session will provide a forum for discussing clinical challenges, sharing best practices, and identifying opportunities to translate research findings into improved patient and animal care.
