Dexter McCluster
Dexter McCluster electrified football fans at every level with his explosive speed, dynamic versatility, and unforgettable performances. Born in Largo, Florida, McCluster became a legend at Ole Miss, where he was a two-time All-SEC selection and a First Team All-American all-purpose player. He made history as the first SEC player to record both 1,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a single season and still holds multiple Ole Miss and Cotton Bowl records. His 282-yard rushing performance against Tennessee in 2009 remains the highest single-game total in Rebel history.
McCluster was named Offensive MVP of the Cotton Bowl in consecutive seasons, joining only the legendary Doak Walker in achieving that feat. In 2022, he was inducted into both the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame and the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame.
Selected 36th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2010 NFL Draft, McCluster spent nine seasons as a pro, also playing for the Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers, Toronto Argonauts (CFL), and the Massachusetts Pirates (NAL). In his NFL debut, he returned a punt 94 yards for a touchdown—then the longest in Chiefs history. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2013 and was named First Team All-Pro as a punt returner. By the end of his pro career, McCluster amassed nearly 6,000 all-purpose yards.
Off the field, McCluster has been deeply involved in community service—from hosting youth football camps to supporting causes like breast cancer awareness and literacy programs. He returned to Ole Miss to complete his degree and continues to mentor young athletes. Whether dazzling fans with a cutback run or inspiring kids with his story, Dexter McCluster’s impact on the game—and beyond—has been nothing short of remarkable.
