2025 Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Induction Weekend

Fri August 1 - Sat August 2, 2025

Mo Williams

Mo Williams has enjoyed one of the most accomplished basketball careers of any Mississippi native—excelling as a player, coach, and community leader. Born in Jackson in 1982, Williams starred at Murrah High School before emerging as a collegiate standout at Alabama. There, he earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors and helped lead the Crimson Tide to an SEC title and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

After being drafted by the Utah Jazz in 2003, Williams spent 13 seasons in the NBA, playing for seven franchises, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. A gifted point guard, he averaged 13.2 points and 5 assists over 818 games. In 2009, he earned NBA All-Star honors while teaming up with LeBron James on a Cavaliers squad that won 66 games. Williams made history in 2015 as the first player to be named Player of the Week in both the Eastern and Western Conferences in the same season. He also scored a career-high 52 points with the Minnesota Timberwolves that year. His final season culminated in an NBA Championship with Cleveland in 2016, becoming part of the first team ever to win the Finals after trailing 3–1.

Off the court, Williams founded the Mo Williams Foundation, providing educational and health resources to underserved youth. He also launched the Mo Williams Skills and Drills Camp to mentor young athletes.

Since retiring, Williams has turned to coaching, leading programs at Alabama State and currently at Jackson State University, where he continues to impact the game as a leader and role model. From Jackson playgrounds to the NBA Finals, Mo Williams’ journey reflects a rare blend of talent, perseverance, and dedication to the sport and his community.
