Scott Berry
Scott Berry is one of the most accomplished coaches in Mississippi baseball history, known for his unwavering leadership, player development, and sustained success over three decades. A native of Neosho, Missouri, Berry spent 14 years as the head coach at Southern Miss, where he became the winningest coach in program history with a record of 528-276-1. Under his guidance, the Golden Eagles won five Conference USA regular season titles, five conference tournament championships, and made nine NCAA Regional appearances—including back-to-back Super Regional appearances in 2022 and 2023. His final season capped a remarkable run with 46 wins, a Sun Belt Tournament title, and the program’s seventh consecutive NCAA tournament berth—then the longest active streak in Division I baseball.
Berry’s legacy extends beyond Southern Miss. He previously led Meridian Community College to national prominence, posting 185 wins and two NJCAA World Series appearances. Notably, he coached future Cy Young winner Cliff Lee while at Meridian. Berry was a four-time Conference USA Coach of the Year and coached 17 All-Americans, four Ferriss Trophy winners, and 38 players who were drafted into Major League Baseball.
Respected throughout the sport, Berry’s impact is seen in the success of his players and programs as well as the high regard of peers, including endorsements from legends like Ron Polk and Brett Favre. His No. 40 jersey was retired by Meridian CC, and he was inducted into the Mississippi Junior College Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. A protégé of MSHOF coach Corky Palmer, Berry's career is marked by both achievement and humility—hallmarks of a coach who built winners on and off the field.
